the music of Gene Wie

6 January 2002 I'm currently in the process of rebuilding an old Celeron 300A machine with some of the parts I have lying around in my closet. I'm rather annoyed at the fact that I can't track on my current dual machine and Windows 2000 and I'm going to remedy this very soon. At the rate that we're losing the ability to playback older modules files, I'm gonna convert most of my favorites and my own work to WAV before I lose some of the old "gems." =)
17 December 2001 At the behest of both D. Travis "Coplan" North and Vince "Novus" Young, here is a complete archive of every single of TraxWeekly ever produced, from #1 to #119, along with the ASCII art submitted by various artists for the zine.

8 October 2001 I recieved notification of my degree certification. I've graduated! I now hold a B.S. Information and Computer Science (research areas: Software Engineering and Information Systems) from the University of California, Irvine. I applied to graduate school in music here and now I'm doing what I've been waiting my entire college career to do: conduct, play, arrange, and compose music! My latest works have been created in the electronic medium, but meant to be performed live. You can visit my new quartet's website at www.elegiequartet.com to hear some of the new arrangements and compositions I've been working on!

Gene Wie, a.k.a. "Psibelius," has been an active member of the underground electronic music scene on the Internet since 1993. He is best known for his endeavours as the founder and organizer of the huge hundred member plus group Epinicion and as editor of the now-defunct tracker zine TraxWeekly.

Gene is (still) a member of pHluid, the music division of the world reknowned art group Acid Productions. He has been with the organization since its reformed inception by Pinion (Ryan Hunt) in 1994-1995.

As a "tracker" musician, Gene is a strong supporter of the Impulse Tracker music composition program, written by Jeffrey  "Pulse" Lim of Australia. IT is the definitive software and his primary tool for tracking to this very day.

If you need a player for these files, I would recommend downloading Winamp, as it supports all music formats you will find here. It doesn't completely and correctly play some of the IT format files, however. For that you will need to download the original composition program, Impulse Tracker (please note that this application only works under DOS and Windows 95/98).

"Homeland: Allegiance"
[2001] - download page
Based on melodies from Ryan Hunt's 1994 composition and my own additions in 1997, H:A is a completely new look at the music, bringing the previous secondary thematic material to the forefront.

"Winter Star"
[2000] - download page
My annual Christmas composition featuring many popular seasonal tunes for friends and family. This year I explored a number of songs that somehow didn't make their way into my pieces in the last three years.

"Cafe at Night: Musical Scenes"
[2000] - download page
I consider this piece to be one of the finest expressions of the musical personality I wish to convey in my writing; movement-based with "live" instrumental solos. Dedicated to G.J.U. for her gracious friendship and support, and the inspiration for writing this piece!

"Screen Test"
[2000] - MP3 128kbps
A quick dramatic piece composed around February of this year for my longtime friend, writer, and future director Derek Stucker, who placed it in a whimsical short film created under the auspices of his little studio team down at UCSD.

"Starry Night"
[2000] - IT | MP3 128kbps
Written as part of a musical gift for my close friends and family around the 1999 holiday season; the final version of this piece was completed in January. It borrows on thematic elements originally presented in my 1995 composition "Dream Suite."

"Christmas Ninety-Nine"
[1999] - IT | MP3 128kbps
This was my second go at an orchestral arrangement of many popular holiday tunes, including Carol of the Bells, O Holy Night, and Come All Ye Faithful.

"Nova Solis"
[1999] - IT | MP3 128kbps
Inspired by the music of Gustav Holst and John Williams; this piece took second place in the multichannel music competition at the Spring Break demo party, San Diego, CA that year. The original melodies for this composition were pulled from an unreleased 1994 work.

"Homeland"
[1997] - IT | MP3 128kbps
A work derived from original themes by Ryan Hunt, a.k.a. Pinion, in his piece "Homeland" [1994]. A new intro, the movement of opening material to the development, and new countermelodies gives "Homeland" a much different musical perspective.
